Workload migrations
Migrating business applications is never fast, easy or cheap. Actually redesigning your core IT is quite the opposite:
- this is a multi-year engagement that typically includes the following phases: business case, vendor selection, analysis, vendor sourcing, design, plan, build, test, (de-)commission, migrate, external audit and often a DR test(s). Expecting that the entire project is to be complete in several months is not realistic and is unlikely to set you for success.
- these projects tend to be very complex due to many factors. Technical complexity - probably the #1 factor; "like for like" is never the case especially if you are migrating to the cloud; knowledge gaps; and new business requirements such as cybersecurity and resiliency are some of the long list of items that need to be considered.
- require multi-million investments in technology, people and process. If not budgeted correctly you are at risk to run out of money half way through.
Dealing with those challenges, only a handful of consultants in Ottawa have the necessary expertise required for the job. Precision levels with zero mistake tolerance, holistic system view, triaging parallel activities / issues and the biggest challenge of them all - time. Every single minute counts - lost revenue, stopped production lines and in some cases the risk of lost lives.
